Talisker Port Ruighe Single Malt Whiskey -700ml

You could spend years waiting for a new version of Talisker's core set, and then both versions appear at the same time! Following in the footsteps of Talisker Storm in early 2013, Talisker launched Port Ruighe, pronounced "Port Ree".

This non-age statement is finished in Port casks, giving a new dimension to this Isle of Skye single malt whisky.

After the initial wave, the nose becomes more complex, with notes of Crayola crayons, orange pith and a hint of white chocolate. Demerara and even poultice are briefly accompanied by plum, plum wine notes.

The mouthfeel is initially characteristic of Talisker brine, but sweeter than usual. The thick flavor is like a storm, with cayenne pepper and a hint of chocolate orange. The smell of smoke was getting thicker - much thicker than the nose suggested.

Finishing the milk chocolate turns into notes of cocoa and oak, with hints of mocha and again with a hint of orange.

Overall, aside from the distillery style, it also has similarities to Talisker Storm, with a thicker, oilier mouthfeel and wood smoke notes. However, Port Rye inherits the additional character of the Port cask, adding sweetness and different flavors such as plum and chocolate.
